Contains a detailed memoir of Saxey's military experiences. Discusses his training and transfer to the European Theater. Describes his fighting₁patrol skirmishes, artillery bombardments, and front-line combat₁in Brumath, France. Recounts the slow advance of his unit and combat in the Stiring-Wendel, Germany area. There, Saxey was involved in street fighting, hand-to-hand combat, and personally viewed the death of many of his friends. Discusses his unit's attack on the Siegfried Line and the Saar Basin. Includes his personal feelings on war, freedom, and death. Specifically mentions the carnage that surrounded Saxey's unit (5 of the 187 original soldiers in his company survived the war). Also contains his discharge papers and newspaper articles citing his heroic actions during house-to-house combat in Germany. Photographs show him in full military dress.
